The Labour Court recommended an ex-gratia redundancy payment for a former temporary Clerical Officer Grade III at County Laois Vocational Education Committee, calculated at four weeks’ pay per year of service in addition to statutory redundancy already paid. The recommendation was dated 27 September 2011. The worker became redundant in June 2009 after three schools amalgamated. The Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union sought an enhanced package, while the VEC said the Department of Education and Skills would not sanction a payment above statutory benefits. The Court considered similar cases, including a Co Wexford VEC arrangement that provided six weeks’ pay per year of service inclusive of statutory redundancy entitlements.
