Labour Court says UCD lecturer’s promotion appeal should be final

The Labour Court recommended that University College Dublin treat a lecturer’s unsuccessful promotion appeal as final. Its recommendation was signed on 27 September 2011. The Irish Federation of University Teachers sought promotion for its member, arguing that UCD changed benchmarks after the process began and handled the appeal unfairly. UCD said the lecturer had been treated fairly and internal procedures were exhausted. The Court said the agreed procedures made the Appeals Committee’s decision final, and that reopening the case would amount to another appeal.
