Labour Court recommends Leitrim fire service training resume under agreement

The Labour Court recommended that Leitrim County Council and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union resume breathing apparatus refresher training under their existing agreement. The recommendation was signed on 16 September 2011. Firefighters who did not demonstrate the required competence should receive further training, normally within four to six weeks if the issue could not be resolved during the course. Until competent, they should not be assigned duties they could not perform, but could continue duties for which they were qualified. The parties accepted that these restrictions were not disciplinary and would not reduce income or benefits while workers cooperated with training.
