The Labour Court recommended that G and T Crampton give priority for future bricklaying work to workers made compulsorily redundant and renegotiate its agreement with the Building and Allied Trades Union. The recommendation was signed on 11 August 2011. The union said the company changed the lay-off and recall agreement without consultation and should have considered alternatives before making compulsory redundancies. G and T Crampton said the downturn was not temporary and there was no need to keep additional bricklayers on lay-off. The Court said workers who claimed redundancy should be regarded as having severed their connection with the company, while those made compulsorily redundant should have priority if bricklayers were needed again.
