Labour Court recommends €2,500 for Ireland Roc Limited sales assistant

The Labour Court recommended that Ireland Roc Limited pay a sales assistant €2,500 after finding that his conduct fell short of reasonable expectations but did not amount to gross misconduct justifying dismissal. The recommendation was signed on 12 July 2011. The company dismissed the worker over alleged failures to follow cash-handling and staff-purchase procedures. The union argued dismissal was disproportionate; the company said an investigation left it no alternative. The employer did not attend the hearing but submitted a letter setting out its position, which the Court considered. The recommendation was in full and final settlement of the claim.
