The Labour Court recommended an enhanced redundancy package for 22 workers made redundant when St Enda's Sports Complex closed in late 2010. The recommendation was signed on 19 May 2011.
The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought an enhanced package and payment of arrears, saying the workers had been paid by the Department of Education and Skills and had little prospect of alternative work. St Enda's Sports Complex said funds for payments above statutory redundancy were unavailable. The Court said the workers lost their jobs after a government department withdrew funding and recommended an ex-gratia lump sum of two weeks' pay per year of service, plus statutory terms. It also recommended prompt payment of outstanding amounts and consideration for jobs if the complex reopened.
