The Labour Court recommended that two distribution drivers employed by Wincanton Ireland receive redundancy terms applied to the group since 2007. The recommendation, dated 11 May 2011, was confined to those two redundancies. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought enhanced terms, including 4.5 weeks’ pay per year of service, while Wincanton Ireland offered 2.5 weeks’ pay per year plus statutory entitlements. The Court said the emerging downward trend in redundancy settlements was not sufficiently established to displace the agreement in place between the parties. It also recommended they agree replacement terms for foreseeable future redundancies on the contract.
