In 2011, the Labour Court recommended compensation for Cork County Council workers who lost regular Saturday overtime after the work was outsourced. The recommendation was signed on 27 April 2011. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the overtime had been a regular, pensionable part of workers’ pay for up to 40 years and sought twice the annual loss. The Council cited budget difficulties and said outsourcing offered competitive prices. The Court recommended compensation calculated at 1.5 times each worker’s actual loss, payable from acceptance of the recommendation. It also recommended a separate €2,000 lump sum in full and final settlement for one claimant who retired in April 2009.
