In 2011, the Labour Court recommended compensation for six Cork County Council fitters who lost regular overtime after the work was outsourced. The recommendation was signed on 27 April 2011. Unite sought twice the annual loss, which it estimated at €16,580 per worker, while the Council said it could not afford compensation and cited budget pressures. The Court recommended compensation calculated at 1.5 times each worker’s actual loss, with the parties to establish that loss by comparing overtime earnings before and after the overtime ended in February 2009. Payment was recommended from acceptance of the recommendation.
