Labour Court recommends review of Debenhams worker’s redundancy payment

The Labour Court recommended that Debenhams and a worker represented by Mandate revisit her redundancy payment and adjust it if a calculation error is established. The recommendation was signed on 12 April 2010. The worker’s union said her payment under a voluntary redundancy scheme was lower because she had been absent from work. Debenhams said she had signed an agreement accepting the stated sum and had compromised any further claim. The Court noted that she had signed a full discharge, which would normally settle the matter if she had an opportunity to obtain independent advice. It said the calculation appeared to include time she had not actually worked.
