The Labour Court recommended a 5% pay cut, or the applicable Joint Labour Committee rate if higher, for Group 4 Security staff in a recommendation dated 28 March 2011. It also recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept the company’s amended proposals. Group 4 Security said its rates were above competitors’ and that average monthly hours in its Guarding Division had fallen by 21%. The union said the company had already reduced hours and overtime, and opposed further cuts. The Court recommended that the company take employees’ previous hours and working patterns into account. Workers could lodge claims for lost earnings if their available hours in 2011 were lower than in 2010. Compensation was to be paid in two equal instalments, on 1 July 2011 and 1 January 2012.
