The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union (SIPTU)’s claim to upgrade an Office of Public Works fitter in Ballina to chargehand fitter. The recommendation was signed on 14 March 2011. SIPTU said the worker had carried out chargehand duties and that Ballina should have its own chargehand grade. The Office of Public Works cited the public-sector promotion moratorium and said any promotion would require open competition. The Court found no justifiable basis to recommend conceding the union’s claim.
