The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for compensation for lost overtime at Roadstone Provinces Limited. The recommendation was signed on 4 March 2011. The union said workers had been obliged to work regular, rostered overtime and had suffered financial loss. Roadstone said the overtime was not guaranteed, depended on business demand and the company could not afford the claim. The Court said the collective agreement made overtime dependent on business demand and did not guarantee it. It found the reduction followed a fall in demand for the company’s product, and did not recommend conceding the claim.
