The Labour Court recommended that St James's Hospital keep its acting-up arrangement for an Electrical Craft Shop post until management and the Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union could discuss changing the 2002 agreement. The recommendation was signed on 7 September 2010. The union wanted the Acting-Up Service Officer position rotated among its six members, saying the existing arrangement gave one electrician an advantage in a future interview. The hospital said the arrangement replaced seniority and followed an agreement for a permanent appointment. The Court said the arrangement might be out of line with normal practice but could not interfere with the incumbent's permanent appointment under the agreement.
