Labour Court rejects union claim over William Cox lay-off selection

By Niamh Kearney

The Labour Court did not recommend concession of the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union's claim over William Cox's selection of 12 workers for temporary lay-off in 2008. It said the dispute had been resolved and that, given the time elapsed, no compensatory award was justified. The union said there had been no consultation on the matrix and that selection by length of service was unfair. William Cox said the matrix had been discussed and agreed. The recommendation was signed on 24 August 2010.
