Labour Court recommends renewed talks on Westport rail drivers’ roster

The Labour Court recommended that Iarnrod Eireann and the National Bus & Rail Union (NBRU) resume talks on a fair roster for locomotive drivers at Westport, taking account of depot demands, including timber trains, and the eight drivers affected. The proposed roster was to be operated in the interim by the seven staff then assigned to the depot. The union said ten drivers were needed and raised concerns about long shifts and the effect of timber train work. Iarnrod Eireann said the roster met business needs and the agreement. The Court found the roster complied with the agreement and that the company could expect drivers to operate it. The recommendation was signed on 11 August 2010.
