Labour Court recommends renewed talks on Leitrim County Council cleaning work

The Labour Court recommended that Leitrim County Council and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union resume talks through the Labour Relations Commission on the use of contract cleaners for work previously done by directly employed staff. It recommended the sides seek agreement within three months and avoid action that could aggravate the dispute while talks continued. The union wanted the Council to seek an exemption from the public service staffing moratorium and discuss the work with it. The Council said a mix of direct labour and contract work was needed to meet cleaning requirements. The recommendation was signed on 9 August 2010.
