The Labour Court recommended compensation for four engineering operatives after Iarnrod Eireann withdrew an availability allowance at its Cork Maintenance depot. It said the loss should be compensated in a similar fashion to arrangements at Portlaoise. The recommendation was signed on 17 May 2010. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the allowance was withdrawn without consultation. Iarnrod Eireann said new 24/7 rosters removed the need for it and that a national compensation formula covered loss of earnings. The Court noted that the Cork allowance was unique and recommended treating its loss separately, as at Portlaoise.
