The Labour Court recommended that HSE West pay staff affected by the closure of the Elderly Care Unit at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital Ennis twice the annual loss of their specialist and location allowances, in full and final settlement. The Irish Nurses & Midwives Organisation and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought reinstatement of the allowances, backdated to June 2007. HSE management said the payments could not continue where staff no longer worked in a recognised specialised area. The recommendation was dated 13 May 2010.
