The Labour Court recommended that the Operative Plasterers' and Allied Trades Society of Ireland concede the two workers’ claim for a redundancy package of five weeks’ pay per year of service, plus statutory terms. The recommendation was signed on 15 April 2010. The workers, represented by the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union, had received compulsory redundancy notices amid the Society’s financial difficulties and the collapse of the building industry. The union said funds or reserves were available and argued that the workers’ service warranted an enhanced package. The Society said its headquarters had no funds available and could not pay the enhancement.
