The Labour Court recommended enhanced redundancy terms and selection procedures for 14 Individuals represented by the Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union after Pickerings Lifts Limited planned to close its Installation Department, putting three Lift Engineer positions at risk. The recommendation was signed on 7 April 2010. It proposed an ex-gratia lump sum of four weeks' average pay per year of service, calculated without a weekly earnings cap, as well as statutory redundancy entitlements. The Court also recommended seeking volunteers first and using last-in, first-out selection if compulsory redundancies remained necessary. The employer did not attend the hearing, and the union agreed to be bound by the recommendation.
