The Labour Court recommended that Turmec Teo discuss terms with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union before any future redundancies take effect. Its recommendation was signed on 22 March 2010. The unions said Turmec Teo had breached the lay-off agreement and failed to follow last-in, first-out selection. The company said its decisions aimed to preserve jobs and complied with the agreement. The Court said discussions on future redundancy terms should begin early enough to finish before redundancies were implemented, with normal procedures used if no agreement was reached. It also said the parties should negotiate a redraft of the disputed lay-off clause, whose wording appeared incapable of practical application.
