The Labour Court recommended that Oatfield Confectionery Ltd reinstate its offer of three weeks’ pay per year of service, including statutory terms, and that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept it. The Court also recommended a €1,000 ex-gratia payment for workers without statutory entitlement. The recommendation was signed on 1 March 2010. The union sought four weeks’ pay per service year and an ex-gratia payment for employees with less than two years’ service. The company said it could afford only statutory redundancy payments and that conceding the claim would endanger remaining jobs.
