The Labour Court recommended that Iarnrod Eireann’s interpretation of the Thurles Station grading agreement be accepted, with two individuals appointed at grade 2 as a one-off arrangement. The recommendation was dated 11 February 2010. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union argued that the Station Operative 2 grade should apply to current and future staff at Thurles Station and sought to retain local travel-time terms. The company said the grading agreement applied to existing staff and that company-wide zoning arrangements replaced the local travel-time terms. The Court also found that the company’s 2008 travel-time offer superseded the local arrangement at Thurles Station.
