The Labour Court recommended that Iarnrod Eireann and the worker, represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, discuss any issues over calculating travel and subsistence payments. The recommendation was dated 21 January 2010. The union said the worker received €8.18 a day while colleagues doing the same work at the same location received €20.15. Iarnrod Eireann said expenses were correctly based on travel distance and time, and that it had paid €562.19 in December 2007 to correct earlier errors. The Court found that the rules based on time and distance from Enniscorthy were being correctly applied. It recommended direct discussions about any calculations based on time spent away from the worker’s base.
