Labour Court recommends qualification support for part-time lecturer

The Labour Court recommended that Galway-Mayo Institute Of Technology assist a part-time lecturer in obtaining a postgraduate qualification that could help him progress to Assistant Lecturer. The recommendation was dated 9 October 2009. The worker raised issues about his contract, incremental credit, progression and pension treatment. The Court noted that he had not met the annual teaching-hours threshold for incremental progression and did not hold the Master’s qualification required for Assistant Lecturer. It recommended that the institute assist him within its policies and that he make efforts to obtain the degree. He could then apply when an Assistant Lecturer position became available.
