Labour Court recommends €2,000 for nurse dismissed by South Infirmary hospital

By Niamh Kearney

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended €2,000 compensation for a nurse dismissed by South Infirmary - Victoria University Hospital Limited, finding its procedures deficient. The recommendation was signed on 5 November 2009. The Irish Nurses Organisation said the nurse was not given a chance to respond to anonymous complaints and that the hospital breached fair procedures. The hospital said it dismissed her during probation after patient safety concerns and her refusal to cooperate with a performance improvement plan. The Court noted she had not been formally told that her continued employment was at risk over the plan.
