The Labour Court recommended that Marine Terminals Limited offer, and Port Operatives Control Room Staff & Cleaners accept, a redundancy package of six weeks’ pay per service year, inclusive of statutory entitlements. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union (SIPTU) represented the workers. The Court recommended voluntary redundancies first, with predetermined objective criteria if too few workers volunteered. It said other outstanding matters should go to an arbitrator because it could not make a definitive recommendation on them on the information before it. The recommendation was signed on 12 October 2009.
