Labour Court recommends equal 2008 bonus for Dublin Airport Authority part-time staff

The Labour Court recommended that Dublin Airport Authority pay part-time staff the same 2008 bonus amount as full-time staff. The recommendation was signed on 20 August 2009.

The Authority had estimated the full-time bonus at €1,200 and proposed paying part-time staff pro rata. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said reduced-hours staff had previously received the full calculated bonus and that the agreement did not provide for pro-rata payments.

The Court found that the agreement and established practice governed how the bonus was distributed, and that staff could expect equal distribution in 2008 unless the parties agreed otherwise. It said the Authority acted contrary to that practice by treating full-time and part-time staff differently. If a 2009 bonus became payable, the parties should discuss its distribution.
