The Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept the Commissioner Of Irish Lights’ proposal to treat overnight stays aboard ship as normal ongoing change for maintenance workers. The dispute followed an instruction for two painters to stay overnight aboard the Irish Lights Vessel Granuaile during a lighthouse project. The union argued this could increase time away from home and change work at land stations. The employer said stays would be unusual and described the accommodation and facilities aboard.
