The Labour Court recommended that Michael Guineys pay a security officer one month’s pay in settlement of a dismissal dispute. The recommendation was signed on 15 June 2009. The worker, represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, said he was dismissed during probation without a chance to address concerns about his suitability. Michael Guineys said it had discussed performance issues with him and he had not improved. The Court found that fair procedures were absent, particularly because he had not been adequately warned that his employment was at risk.
