The Labour Court recommended urgent renewed talks between the Royal Irish Academy and Ifut over promotion structures, and implementation of relevant recommendations in a staffing review. The recommendation was signed on 26 May 2009. Ifut said the Academy had no promotion system and that its pay scales were low. The Academy disputed UCD as a comparator and said the proposal could not be sustained financially. The Court said the case could return for a definitive recommendation if no agreement was reached within three months.
