The Labour Court recommended a settlement of a dispute between Limerick County Council and the Irish Municipal, Public And Civil Trade Union over environmental control officers’ duties and use of council vehicles. The dispute followed a council budget that included €442,000 in litter-management cuts. The Court recommended that the workers collect a small number of intact litter bags, use council vehicles and cooperate with future logging arrangements. It also recommended that the council deploy officers outside their residential areas where practicable and pay outstanding expenses. The recommendation was signed on 15 May 2009.
