The Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept County Wexford Community Workshop (Enniscorthy) Limited’s final offer in full and final settlement of a retrospective-pay claim. The recommendation was signed on 5 May 2009. The claim concerned eight social care workers seeking the Department of Health pay scale for the period from 1 February 2002 to December 2004. The union argued they should receive retrospective pay on the same basis as other social care workers in the health service. The Workshop said the HSE had made €87,947 available for the workers, but that no further funding would be provided. The Court noted the Workshop depended on HSE funding and considered it unrealistic to seek more, given public finances and pressure on public-body resources.
