The Labour Court rejected a claim by the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union Services Industrial Professional Technical Union for a site allowance for Road Construction Inspectors employed by Dublin City Council. The recommendation was signed on 30 April 2009. The union argued that inspectors assigned to capital works should receive the travel and subsistence allowance paid to engineers, technicians and clerks of works. The council said the inspectors’ job specifications did not include the allowance and that they received overtime and a car or bus pass, unlike staff covered by the relevant circulars. After considering both sides’ submissions and the different pay arrangements, the Court said it was not satisfied the claim had merit and rejected it.
