Labour Court recommends checking added-years eligibility for HSE maintenance managers

The Labour Court recommended that HSE-Ea check whether Maintenance Managers qualified for professional added years under the criteria in recruitment competitions. The recommendation was signed on 6 April 2009. The Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union said an agreement to grant the benefit had been reached in 2005. HSE-Ea argued the grades were not eligible under the applicable superannuation provisions. The Court noted that management had instructed Human Resources to apply the benefit in 2005 before later treating that instruction as an error. The Court recommended examining each claimant’s recruitment competition against the criteria in the relevant circulars and applying the benefit if they matched.
