The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Construction Industry Federation’s claim for a 10% cut to registered construction pay rates. The recommendation, signed on 31 March 2009, followed a dispute with the Construction Industry Committee, Irish Congress Of Trade Unions over the Towards 2016 transitional agreement. The Court said falling market rates were likely to approach the Registered Employment Agreement rates and found a further reduction unjustified. It recommended that both sides urgently resume talks on the 3.5% increase, with a possible return to the Court if they did not reach agreement within a month.
