The Labour Court recommended five weeks’ pay per year of service, including statutory terms, for redundancies at St Joseph’s Hospital in Sligo, with payment phased over 12 months. The recommendation, signed on 24 March 2009, followed a dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Irish Nurses’ Organisation over redundancy terms and selection criteria. The Court recommended that the unions accept management’s selection criteria for this round, with the parties to discuss criteria for future redundancies. It also noted that loss-of-earnings issues for workers whose hours had been reduced would go to a Rights Commissioner for investigation.
