The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim that a worker be allowed to continue working to age 68. The recommendation was signed on 2 March 2009. The union said the worker wanted to reach 50 years’ service and that Teagasc had previously allowed workers to work until 68. Teagasc said retirement age had fallen to 66 in line with pension eligibility changes, and it needed to reduce payroll costs by 3%. The Court said retirement age was determined by the applicable pension scheme and was a matter for Teagasc.
