Labour Court rejects union claim for national Sports Officers pay scale

The Labour Court recommended against conceding the Irish Municipal, Public And Civil Trade Union’s claim for a national pay grade and scale for Sports Officers in the Institutes Of Technology. Its recommendation was signed on 29 January 2009. The union said pay and conditions varied between institutes and argued that an existing independent report was flawed. It asked the Court to appoint another assessor. The Institutes Of Technology said management was willing to implement the report’s findings and argued that the union’s request for an increase beyond the assessor’s recommended grade was barred under the public service agreement. The Court found no reason to change the assessor’s findings or repeat the assessment. It did not recommend conceding the union’s claim.
