The Labour Court recommended that Ppi Adhesive Products should not concede a Services Industrial Professional Technical Union claim over pay differences between laboratory technicians. The recommendation was dated 24 November 2008. The union argued that technicians doing effectively the same job had different rates and sought an adjustment based on comparator companies. PPI said its pay scale reflected national agreements, length of service and historical practices, and disputed the comparisons. The Court considered the technicians’ salaries at or above market rates and said their rates had arisen for historical reasons.
