Labour Court recommends independent evaluation of Dental Instructor’s role

The Labour Court recommended that Cork University Dental School & Hospital independently evaluate a worker’s role against that of an academic lecturer. The recommendation was signed on 17 November 2008. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the Dental Instructor’s duties had grown to match those of a Grade 1 Lecturer in Dental Technology and sought regrading. Cork University Dental School & Hospital maintained that the posts differed in duties and qualifications and that the claim was cost-increasing. The Court recommended that the parties agree on an evaluator and terms of reference, then address the evaluation’s outcome. It said the recommendation reflected the exceptional circumstances of the case and had no precedent value.
