The Labour Court recommended that G4S Security Services (IRL) Ltd offer a once-off €5,000 payment to each of up to four security officers who choose redundancy. The recommendation was signed on 12 November 2008. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought an overtime premium after a shift start moved from 7.30am to 6.30am, as well as improved redundancy terms for officers at a client site. G4S said the roster change fell within its flexibility agreement and that it had offered voluntary redundancy and alternative work. The Court said the earlier start was covered by the agreement and did not recommend the overtime-premium claim. It recommended the additional redundancy payment, noting the officers’ site-specific contracts and long service at the location. The payment is capped at four redundancies.
