The Labour Court rejected Unite’s claim for 144 technical staff at Trinity College Dublin to receive 24 days of annual leave, retrospectively to 1999. The recommendation was dated 30 September 2008. Unite said the staff averaged 20 days’ leave, compared with 24 days for comparable grades, and argued that staff covered for one another so extra leave would not require replacement workers. Trinity College Dublin argued the claim would increase costs and could lead to similar claims elsewhere in the university sector. The Court found the claim was cost-increasing and debarred under Towards 2016, and rejected it.
