In 2008, the Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union cooperate with Boc Gases’ proposed tanker-driver changes and accept a €3,750 lead-in payment for each affected driver. The recommendation was signed on 27 August 2008. The union argued that Automated Tanker Filling introduced fundamental changes and sought a share of the company’s savings. Boc Gases said the changes were normal ongoing change under Towards 2016. The Court agreed they were normal ongoing change, not major or significant change, and found the union’s claim was cost-increasing. It also noted that the new operation required training for each driver.
