In 2008, the Labour Court recommended that the Irish Aviation Authority concede the union’s claim and pay the Higher Duty Allowance to 13 Data Assistants at its training centre in Ballycasey, Shannon. The recommendation was signed on 25 August 2008. The Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union said the Data Assistants performed the same work as Higher-Level Duty Assistants, who received an allowance of €3,742. The Authority said the roles differed and offered to upgrade two assistants. The Court found the groups were doing the same work and were interchangeable.
