The Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept Calor Gas’s redundancy offer with two changes: ex-gratia payments should include 39 hours’ basic pay plus five hours’ average overtime, and the orderly wind-down payment should rise to €1,000 per employee. The recommendation was signed on 13 August 2008. The union sought an improved package after Calor Gas announced the closure of its Dublin Port cylinder filling operation. The company said its offer was fair given falling cylinder volumes and increased transport costs. The Court recommended acceptance of the company’s offer as amended.
