Labour Court recommends facilitator for council mechanical section dispute

The Labour Court recommended that Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union appoint a facilitator to help assess the future viability of the Council’s Mechanical Section. The recommendation was signed on 11 August 2008. The section maintained some Council vehicles. The union challenged the case for closure, while the Council cited excess capacity as more vehicles were leased with maintenance included. The Court recommended completing the facilitation process by 30 November 2008. If the parties could not agree on a facilitator within four weeks, both could ask the Court to nominate one.
