The Labour Court recommended changes to resolve outstanding restructuring issues at Glanbia (Inch), including a €7,000 once-off payment to affected staff for earnings loss. Its recommendation was signed on 6 August 2008. The dispute was with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union (SIPTU). The Court recommended fixing staffing at 50, reducing the Serac-rate working week to 40 hours with a pro-rata salary reduction, and setting redundancy terms at six weeks’ pay per service year, capped at €125,000. It also recommended a €3,750 lead-in payment per employee in three phases, with the later payments conditional on satisfactory cooperation. The company’s overtime-loss compensation offer should be accepted. The Court did not recommend conceding the union’s claims for compensation over non-appointment to salaried posts or for a productivity payment.
