In 2008, the Labour Court recommended that St Angela’s College and Unite jointly approach the Department of Education and Science to advance a resolution to a dispute over grading four staff roles. The recommendation was signed on 31 July 2008. Unite said the Examinations Officer, Catering Manager, Home Economics Assistant and Library Assistant roles carried greater responsibility than their pay grades reflected, and that proposed upgrades had not been implemented. The College acknowledged grading inequities, accepted the consultant’s proposed upgrades and said it was seeking Departmental approval and funding. The Court noted there was no real dispute between the College and Unite about the proposed upgrades, but recommended they approach the Department together to find a way forward.
